Polyvore Sets - Who knew? Not me!

Perhaps you have heard of this technology, but I certainly hadn't...and now I'm loving it!

For fashion lovers who like to coordinate their perfect outfits beforehand, I present to you Polyvore. You can mix and match individual images from anywhere on the web, by any designer. Once you create an outfit, it will even help you figure out where to purchase it all. Designers range from high end to everyday bargains. When you’re finished, you can share you creations or look at others in the community.

An example is a pink tutu I bought from H&M last year. You can find it, and add it to different sets to create final products such as these.

My vintage inspired wedding - A love for cream, french, pearls, candles and roses

Since our wedding in Mexico was very simple and based on the tropical zen-like atmosphere, my at home reception in a banquet hall involved much more detail to get the vintage theme I so badly desired. Budgets prevailed and the hall was already quite beautiful so small details such as the french inspired heavy linen paper I used for the table numbers, incredibly reasonably priced centerpieces made up of pearls, votive candles, hand pinned risers and gorgeous vendela roses and antique hydrangeas would have to suffice. Here are some of the details of my vintage but mostly ivory themed wedding. The cake was provided by the hall and was a simple marzipan 3 tiered square shape, and I chose two types of ribbon from a local fabric store, and requested they overlay the satin over the lace. I ordered our monogrammed cake topper, handmade wrist couture inspired purse, and gorgeous shoes online. I also stumbled upon an amazing design duo in Ireland who handmade my organza shrug. All the ladies received cream, ivory and white shades of pashminas in which I personalized with a little poem of thanks and a small pearl, wrapped it in raw raffia and placed in a wire bin.

This blog contains a few details from my wedding which put our personal stamp on things, and I threw in some of my favourite antique looking bouquet photos, flower jewellery and all.

Ticking Stripe

I married someone with the last name Lewicki, and who's nickname is "Lewickipedia", lovingly donned upon him by his friends due to his incessant need to discover all things information. We could be in the middle of a conversation, a dinner party or a tropical vacation and if someone needs to know the answer, whether it's related to pop-culture, the proper spelling of a wild mushroom's correct name or the 2nd last word in the chorus of the lyrics to a song, Michael must find the answer. Right at that moment.

We were sitting at Chapters one evening and I was flipping through home decor books. I discovered two new pieces of information. Perhaps useless to some, however for me it simplified my Google searches. I love those fancy antique sofas but never knew what they were called and I found one that I adored. It was called a "settee" and it was in a fabric that I have been trying to describe forever.

We were in the Pacific Mall in Toronto, often referred to as the "Chinese Mall" which is notoriously busted and shut down for reasoning of vendors selling knock off designer labels and pirated black market movies that are still in theatres. I fell in love with a dress and decided I must have it for my bridal shower and I thought, if I could just take this material and stuff it with foam, I'd have some very cool striped pillows for my bed.

The problem is, when you try to research "stripes", you get an entire array of images that were not narrowed down enough for my liking. The settee I was describing above, was in this same fabric and as I delved further into the article, realized it was called "Ticking Stripe".

I was so excited, came home and wrote this blog, as well as found these images. It reminds me of a beachy, zen-like, nautica feel and on linens, would probably be found at your friend's rustic cottage yet in fashion, could be paired with some khaki's for a very Ralph-Lauren advertisement feel.

Couture Lollipops

Okay, let's be real here for a second. Unless you've got megabucks to spend on enhancing the "theme" of your wedding, this next blog may not be of much use to you. Let's face it, who in their right mind would pay $25.00 for one lollipop? *Sigh* a girl can dream can't she?

Sugar Factory, located in the heart of Las Vegas, offers these exquisite and fun sparkly treats, fit for any princess or aspiring trend setter. While it may not be reasonable to buy an arm full for your guests as favours at your wedding, what a fun way to personalize a gift for bridesmaids or a bachelorette party. You can purchase chocolate or candy but it was the "blinged out" couture lollipops that caught my attention.

The stem of the lollipop is encrusted in beautiful crystals, which vary in colour and style, and you can purchase a 3-pack box set of the tasty lollipop head which are disposable and can be replaced once eaten.

Come on, admit it....it's SUCH a cute concept....this takes "The Bedazzler" to a whole new level!

The friend who got away

You know, so many songs, movies and poems are written about the loss of a relationship, but it usually is referring to romantic love, and the heartache you feel when you're going through a break-up.

It seems almost taboo to talk about when you've lost a friend for whatever reason. Have you ever just wondered what happened to a girlfriend who got away? Do you feel that sense of dread when someone brings up her name in a mutual conversation? You almost feel ashamed that the relationship has come to an end.

I had a very close friend for almost 10 years who just walked away from both her husband and myself to start a new life, with no explanation why or what she was thinking and it has been more difficult for me than any breakup of a boyfriend I have ever been through. Maybe it's the fact that there is a sister-hood about girlfriends; a loyalty that should never be broken but when it is, it can be life-changing and devastating.

I stumbled upon this book many years ago and picked it up. "The friend who got away" is an interesting read on this subject, as it recounts 20 different friendships that failed or went awry and the interesting thing is, in some cases you get both sides of the story from each friend.

If you've ever lost a girlfriend, not to death, but for reasons really hard to even explain, this book may aid in the healing process.
